Essentials
Any alcoholic capable of honestly facing his problems
in the light of our experience can recover,
provided he does not close his mind to all spiritual concepts.
He can only be defeated by an attitude of intolerance
or belligerent denial.
We find that no one need have difficulty
with the spirituality of the program.
Willingness, honesty and open-mindedness
are the essentials of recovery. But these are indispensable.

From the Big Book:
"Imagine life without faith! Were nothing left but pure reason, it wouldn't be life. But we believed in life--of course we did. We could not prove life in the sense that you can prove a straight line is the shortest distance between two points, yet, there it is. Could we still say the whole thing was nothing but a mass of electrons, created out of nothing, meaning nothing, whirling on to a destiny of nothingness? The electrons themselves seemed more intelligent than that. At least, so the chemist said."
c. 1939, Alcoholics Anonymous, We Agnostics, p. 54.
Prayer for the day:
"I pray that I may find a haven in the thought of God.
I pray that I may abide in that Strong Tower, strongly guarded."
c. 1975, Hazelden Foundation, Twenty-Four Hours A Day, July 16.
Quote for the day:
"To love what you do and feel that it matters--how could anything be more fun?"
__ Katharine Graham
My share: I have overcome the belligerent denial and abject intolerance of all things spiritual not through any conscious effort to do so but simply through a willingness to admit that there might be an advantage in trying to work the steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
To my surprise and delight, it worked for me. Be Good To You, Dave

It's worked for me too.
