Wise Investment
The wisest investment I can make is to continue to give myself
entirely to AA and place my life on a service basis.
It is, in my experience especially important
to devote time on a daily basis to the practice of our Eleventh Step,
maintaining that daily connection
with the source of all life through prayer and meditation.
This, it is guaranteed,
will transform loneliness into aloneness,
or all-oneness in the best sense of the word.
The AA Grapevine, May 2008, p. 27
From the Big Book:
"He was positive that this humiliating experience, plus the knowledge he had acquired, would keep him sober the rest of his life. Self-knowledge would fix it. We heard no more of Fred for a while. One day we were told that he was back in the hospital. This time he was quite shaky."
c.1939, AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, More About Alcoholism, p. 40.
Prayer for the day:
"I pray that the forces of evil in my life will flee before God's presence.
I pray that with God I will win the real victory over myself."
c. 1975, Hazelden Foundation, Twenty-Four Hours A Day, May 20.
Quote for the day:
"Dangers foreseen are the sooner prevented." __Richard Franck
My share:
The notion that self-knowledge would keep me from repeating the mistakes I made acquiring my first DUI was quickly dashed when flashing lights again appeared in my rear view mirror. I had managed to remain traffic violation free for two years and a week though my resolve to not drink and drive had flown out the window even before the fines had been paid. Be Good To You, Dave
