Modem-to-Modem
Twice this week, I've had tormented thoughts at three A.M. Do I have to phone and wake someone up for support? No, because other sober insomniacs are on line, ready to help me through the night. I didn't want a drink, I just needed the loving support of the Fellowship. Knowing I can talk and apply the Steps to my chaotic thoughts and feelings at three A.M. makes a world of difference to me. As to whether on line meetings violate Traditions, I say, "Bah, humbug!" I can't go to a meeting in Pakistan today -- does that make it not a real meeting? On line meetings are like any other -- if you get there, you are welcome there.

From the Big Book:
"Here was the threat of commitment, the loss of family and position, to say nothing of that intense mental and physical suffering which drinking always caused him. He had knowledge about himself as an alcoholic. Yet all reasons for not drinking were easily pushed aside in favor of the foolish idea that he could take whiskey if only he mixed it with milk!"
c. 1939 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, More About Alcoholism, pp.36-37.
Prayer for the day:
"I pray that I may learn how to have inner peace.
I pray that I may be calm, so that God can work through me."
c. 1975, Hazelden Foundation, Twenty-Four Hours A Day, May 10.
Quote for the day:
"Ponder the spectre of yourself as one human being in the over six
billion people on Earth. See Earth as one tiny planet in a galaxy of
billions of stars, and that galaxy as just one of billions of galaxies in our expanding universe. We are so minute as to be nonexistent. And yet, we have the power to visualize, to imagine the entirety of the cosmos."__Thomas Moore
My share:
The phenomenon of on line meetings created a great controversy at first. There are still many who insist such meetings are invalid. I think if we can comprehend the relative insignificance of this entire planet in the context of the greater universe we can surely set side any misgivings we might have over the importance of face-to-face meetings in the real world as opposed those in cyber-space.
