Change
How many of us would presume to declare,
"Well, I'm sober and I'm happy.
What more can I want or do?
I'm fine the way I am."
We know that the price of such self-satisfaction
is an inevitable back-slide,
punctured at some point by a very rude awakening.
We have to grow or else deteriorate.
For us, the status quo can only be for today,
never for tomorrow.
Change we must; we cannot stand still.

From the Big Book:
"We told him what we knew of alcoholism and the answer we had found. He made a beginning. His family was re-assembled, and he began to work as a salesman for the business he had lost through drinking. All went well for a time, but he failed to enlarge his spiritual life. To his consternation, he found himself drunk half a dozen times in rapid succession."
c. 1939, AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, More About Alcoholism, p.35.
Prayer for the day:
"I pray that I may not be in too much of a hurry.
I pray that I may take time out often to rest with God."
c. 1975, Hazelden Foundation, May 8.
Quote for the day:
"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be." -- Lao Tzu
My share:
The tale of the salesman who lost his business and then his recaptured job because of his drinking sent a strong message to me to be always on guard. The cunning and baffling part of this disease will knock down anyone not prepared for the attack. I intend to say prepared. I take time to rest with God. Be Good To You, Dave.
