Life's Little Instruction Book

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three Rs: Respect for self, respect for others and responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. Its a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go some place you've never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

From the Big Book:
"We do not like to pronounce any individual as alcoholic, but you can quickly diagnose yourself. Step over to the nearest barroom and try some controlled drinking. Try to drink and stop abruptly. Try it more than once. It will not take long for you to decide, if you are honest with yourself about it. It may be worth a bad case of the jitters
if you get a full knowledge of your condition."
c. 1939, AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, More About Alcoholism, pp. 31-32.

Prayer for the day:
"I pray that God may supply me with strength and show me the direction in which He wants me to grow. I pray that these things may come naturally from my cooperation with Him."
c. 1975, Hazelden Foundation, Twenty-Four Hours A Day, April 23.

Quote for the day:
"It would be a product of false pride to claim that A.A. is a cure-all, even for alcoholism." __Bill Wilson

My share:
A friend sent me the Dalai Lama's 19 rules for living and I was immediately impressed with the many correlations I found between those and the design for living we call A.A. For me this is further proof that the program suggested by Bill W. and that "merry band of one hundred" so many years ago was not only the best direction this alcoholic could find, it seems also to be divinely inspired spirituality. Hi friends, please note that these “19 rules for living” were *not* authored by HIs Holiness the Dalai Lama. They were taken from a book by Brown and Brown called “Life’s Little Instruction Book” and spread around the Internet misattributed to His Holiness. (See http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/hoaxes/dalai.asp .)

Please consider editing your post to correct the misattribution so it doesn’t spread further.

Blessings! :-)
