From the Big Book: "Here are thousands of men and women, worldly indeed. They flatly declare that since they have come to believe in a Power greater than themselves, to take a certain attitude toward that Power, and to do certain simple things, there has been a revolutionary change in their way of living and thinking." p. 50
My share...I've always been intrigued by this "fake it until you make it attitude". It says above, helping others even when it is insincere will help me heal. I've heard it before, pray whether you believe or not, and make it a habit long enough and it becomes second nature. I have to be careful of those directives. I used to lie to myself long often enough and often enough that I began to believe my own lies. Be Good To You, Dave
Prayer for the Day..."I pray that God may protect me as long as I try to serve Him. I pray that I may go forward today unafraid." (Hazelden)
Listening
Trying to get into communication with and to help other people
is a recovery measure for us,
because it helps take us out of ourselves.
Trying to heal ourselves by helping others works.
even when it is an insincere gesture. Try it some time. If you really listen (not just hear) what is being said,
you may find the person talking has quietly slipped inside your head
and seems to be describing the landscape there
-- the shifting shapes of nameless fears,
the color and chill of impending doom --
if not the actual events and words stored in your brain.
