I was deeply affected by Michael Moore's recent release, "Sicko".
I am disgusted by the broken, uncaring condition of our healthcare system as a whole.
I am angry that so many Americans simply cannot afford healthcare or dental care.
I am maddened by the devil-may-care attitude of HMO's who routinely deny coverage to their premium paying subscribers by searching for any loophole available to not pay for services rendered, leaving the patient in serious if not dire financial straits.
I am ashamed that our healthcare system places financial concerns over providing needed medical attention.
I am incensed that friends and neighbors and families often fall into foreclosure or financial ruin when major medical illness occurs.
I am appalled that hospital workers are ordered to remove non-paying individuals and deposit them on skid row.
But I am deeply disturbed by the fact that CEO's of most HMO's receive millions and even billions in annual compensation if even one of their own customers is forced into bankruptcy as a result of denied coverage.
And finally, I am enraged that our government has not adopted the concept that Healthcare is a human Right and not a commodity available only to the wealthy. Americans deserve to be treated with medical expertise based on need and not on ability to pay. We need to take the best elements of national healthcare systems in other countries and make our own National Healthcare System that is even better than any of them.
I am motivated to campaign for the concept that Healthcare Is A Human Right.
